NQT Induction and Early Career Framework (ECF) Pilot (September 2020)

NQT Induction from September 2020 (Rollout of Early Career Framework Pilot – Greater Manchester Schools)

We are very pleased to announce that as from September 2020 we will be working in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University (UCL Early Career Teacher Consortium) who are one of the approved DfE ECF providers. This is a brand new two year fully funded Early Career Professional Development Programme for early career teachers and their mentors.

All schools in Greater Manchester are invited to join the Early Career Framework (ECF) roll-out for 2020. The Department of Education (DfE)’s Early Career Framework underpins a funded, two year package of structured training and support for early career teachers. It ensure new teachers have dedicated time to focus on their development, building on their Initial Teacher Training (ITT).

There will be no changes to statutory induction during the first year of early roll-out. The development support package will last for 2 years but statutory induction during early roll-out will continue to last for 1 year.

After one year, NQTs will be assessed against the Teachers’ Standards to determine whether they have passed induction. There is no change to present arrangements. National roll-out is due to take place from September 2021 and will include a 2 year development support programme for all NQTs in England.

Schools that opt in can access a professional development support package for their NQTs which includes:

  • Funded 5% time off timetable in the second year of teacher, in addition to the existing 10% in the first year
  • A range of high-quality, freely available curricula and training materials underpinned by the Early Career Framework
  • Funded training for NQTs and mentors of NQTs
  • Funded time for mentors to support NQTs
You’ll need to look at each provider’s offer on their webpage and select the one that’s right for you. Details on how to register for more information about the programme and sign up are on the providers’ webpages:
  • UCL Early Career Teacher Consortium (in partnership with St Patrick’s)
  • Ambition Institute
  • Education Development Trust
  • Teach First

As an Appropriate Body, we are unfortunately unable to offer guidance with this decision, as we must remain impartial. However, we will check that all NQTs in Greater Manchester schools are enrolled with a provider, as this will be a statutory obligation for all schools for the next academic year.

NQT Induction September 20

We have updated our NQT registration form and newly updated NQT package which includes our partnership with MMU (UCL). We are delighted to confirm that all NQTs registered for September 20 will be invited to our NQT Conference which will be held in the Spring Term and will include Masterclasses, Guest Speakers, Workshops and a Market Place. We will continue to provide the Induction Tutor Briefing and NQT Briefing in September via webinar which is included in all packages. Our Silver/Gold Packages also includes new CPD sessions in response to the consequences of COVID-19.

Our service and commitment will remain the same in every way and the same team will be leading the support and quality assurance for your schools.

Statutory Induction of Newly Qualified Teachers

St Patrick’s RC High School, the lead of the St. Patrick’s Teaching School Alliance, is an Appropriate Body (AB) for the professional induction of newly qualified teachers (NQTs) for secondary schools.

The appointment of an Appropriate Body is a statutory requirement for the induction period of NQTs and the Appropriate Body makes the final decision as to whether an NQT has met the Teachers’ Standards on the recommendation of the Headteacher.
