Full Day School Experience Visits
One of the best ways to find out whether a career in teaching is right for you is to spend some time in a classroom and speak to experienced teachers and school staff. The School Experience Programme (SEP) has been developed by the government to allow you to gain classroom experience in secondary schools.
St Patrick’s Roman Catholic High School is committed to Teacher training. As a National Teaching School we are eager to support future teachers, helping them gain experience in an outstanding secondary school. We are proud to take part in the School Experience Programme.
We would like to thank you for considering St Patrick’s RC High School to undertake your School Experience. Please read the following information carefully to ensure that our School Experience Programme is the best one for you.
The School Experience visits announced are for one day initial visits to our community. The taster days are available to those applicants who are considering applying for Teacher Training this year. Our bespoke programme is planned with this in mind to allow you to access information about the different routes into teaching.
During the day you will have the chance to observe and work in lessons, with teachers and pupils across the school, as well as a focus on the subject area that you would like to teach. The whole life of a teacher and school community is catered for during your initial day with us in order to allow you to gain a small taste and understanding of school life.
Our School Experience Initial taster days begin at 8.00am at St Patrick’s. Our pupils begin their school day at 8.30am and finish at 3.00pm.
In order for you to discuss further days, after your taster day, you should expect to complete your visit with us at 4.00pm.
There will be a £20 charge for this programme. This will include refreshments over the day. Please not that professional attire and standards of behaviour are expected, as you will be in contact with pupils during the day. These days have limited places available so booking early is advised.
How to apply

Get Into Teaching Information Events
These are short 90 min taster sessions to help support you on your journey into teaching. They are ideal events to gain information, if you have not yet already engaged with the UCAS application process.
During the session there will be a short presentation that covers the routes into teaching, how to apply to a teacher training course and some tips for the application process. There will also be an informal tour of the school (day sessions only). This is an ideal time to learn about the School Direct course that we run and to speak to an Initial Teacher Training provider in person.
